Why people search for a Northwest alternative

Northwest Registered Agent has held the largest Wyoming-RA market share for years. Their service is competent, their privacy posture is real, and their team genuinely picks up the phone. In our view, three things drive the alternative search:

If you are searching for an alternative, you are usually not searching because Northwest is bad. You are searching because the all-in number for year two surprised you and you want a comparison with the renewal price written in plain English.

What we charge

$99/year for Wyoming registered agent service. That is the renewal price. It is not an introductory rate. There is no separate "compliance package." There is no automatic upgrade. We file as organizer for clients who want their name off the public Articles of Organization, included.

If you have multiple Wyoming LLCs, each is $99/year, no bundle discount and no penalty either; you do not need to negotiate, and you do not need to call to argue against a renewal hike.

State filing fee for a new Wyoming LLC is $100 paid to the Wyoming Secretary of State. We pass it through at cost.

Where Northwest still wins

Multi-state operators with five-plus state agents in different states sometimes get a better total cost from Northwest's bundled pricing. We do not bundle across states; we operate state-by-state. If you have one Wyoming LLC and one Texas LLC and one Florida LLC, our total is $297 (three states at $99 each); a Northwest bundle may price below that depending on current promotional structure.

Northwest also has a longer institutional history (in business since 1998) and a larger physical footprint. If institutional age is a tiebreaker for you, that is a real factor.

Where we win on substance

Operating Agreement quality. Generic registered-agent services include a 10-to-12-page template that satisfies the state requirement and not much else. The template we include is built around the structural defenses Daniel Kleinberger and Carter Bishop describe in their treatise on LLC law: separateness covenant, recordkeeping clause, anti-alter-ego language, charging-order remedy provision, capitalization provision, choice-of-law and venue. The template is not legal advice and we route complex multi-member or holding-company structures to a boutique attorney partner at flat fee.

Clint Coons of Anderson Business Advisors makes the case bluntly: a Wyoming LLC without a substantive operating agreement is "a $100 state filing, not a defense." (https://andersonadvisors.com/charging-order-llc/) That is the position we built our service around.

Renewal honesty. The price you see on the order page is the price you will pay in year two. We do not have an introductory tier and a separate "compliance pro" tier and a separate "premium privacy" tier. The $99 is the $99.

How to switch your registered agent (any service to any service)

The Wyoming change-of-registered-agent process is straightforward. Five steps:

  1. Hire the new registered agent (us, or any Wyoming-domiciled service of your choice). Get their consent and their Wyoming street address in writing.
  2. File a Statement of Change of Registered Agent or Registered Office with the Wyoming Secretary of State. The form is on the SOS site; the fee is $5.
  3. Notify your old registered agent in writing that they are no longer your agent. Most reputable services have a cancellation form; some require notice 30 to 60 days before renewal.
  4. Update your business records (operating agreement, bank, IRS Form 8822-B if your responsible-party address changes, state tax accounts).
  5. Confirm the change reflects on the Wyoming SOS business search within 7 to 14 days.

We handle steps 1, 2, and a courtesy step 3 letter for $39 plus the $5 state fee. The total switch cost is $44 if you move during the renewal window.

What we are not

We are not a law firm. We do not give legal advice. We do not promise that any specific operating agreement language or structure will defeat any specific creditor in any specific lawsuit. Outcomes in litigation depend on facts, jurisdiction, and quality of counsel, and we are none of those things.

We are also not the cheapest registered agent in America. There are services advertising $39/year that work fine for the year you sign up and then disappear or quietly raise to $200. We are the price we are because the substantive operating agreement and the honest renewal cost real money to deliver.

FAQ

Is Northwest Registered Agent worth the price?

For multi-state bundled customers and customers who value institutional age, often yes. For a single Wyoming LLC where the renewal honesty matters, the value calculation is less clear. The answer depends on how many states you operate in and how much the year-two surprise factor weighs in your decision.

Can I switch from Northwest to another service mid-year?

Yes. Wyoming allows a change of registered agent at any time by filing a Statement of Change with the Secretary of State ($5 fee). Most contracts allow cancellation; check yours for any auto-renew clause and notice period.

Will switching registered agents affect my LLC's good standing?

No, as long as the new agent is in place before the change is filed. The state requires a continuous registered agent. There is no gap if you handle the order correctly.

What is "filing as organizer" and why does it matter?

The organizer is the person filing the Articles of Organization. The organizer's name appears on the public Articles. If a third party (your registered agent service) files as organizer, your name does not appear on the public state record at all. We file as organizer for clients who want this; it is included.

Do you offer multi-state discounts like Northwest?

No. Each state is $99/year, no bundle. If you have multiple states with us, you pay the per-state rate. For some multi-state operators, this is cheaper than Northwest's bundle; for others, it is more expensive. We tell you the total before you order.

What happens to my mail?

Service of process (lawsuits, government notices) is scanned and forwarded same-day to the email on file. Physical mail forwarding is optional at $10/month. Most clients use the service-of-process mail forwarding only and route everything else (bank statements, vendor invoices) to their own address.
